BLOCK 1 Gives Back

Hello Blockmates!

It's been ages right?! I decided to put this thing here for us to go back where we all started. :)

I know we all heard the news about our Alma Mater, a not so fortunate one. The very building we first say Hi and Hello's caught fire.

One of our generous blockmate suggested that we might consider donating an oscilloscope for the engineering students. Though it is a very thoughtful and genuine gesture, some of us, I particularly had one thought - our school is a private business and for sure insurance may cover the damages. The students will be fine. Let it be known that all of us agreed to raise money for the oscilloscope but we are far from raising the right amount to get one. With the eagerness to help, we somehow found a common ground - that is simply to help.

But little did we know that most of us are already doing a charity work, donating to NGOs and other organisations that reaches out to those who are most in need. Another common ground I may say. Then we thought, "Hey! Why don't we start to do something and try to change one life for the better?". We thought of giving back.

We have decided to do a scholarship program in our 'BLOCK ONE' name.
At first we thought of sending the 'scholar' to UE but it seems that we may not be able to support it all through out because of the higher expenses. In order to achieve our goal, we went to a more practical route - send the 'scholar' to a state college, fund everything, and turn the 'scholar' into the best that he/she can be.

We are going to produce An Engineer.

How can we achieve this?
We haven't plan everything out yet but we have an idea how to start.

This school year, we are going to select a high school and tell them our intension. From that particular school, we are hoping to get a student who have an inclination to study and pursue engineering. The graduating student need not be the class valedictorian nor in the top 3. Maybe someone included in the upper percentage of the class. He/She just needs to have the potential, the drive, the desire and the eagerness to pursue college but might not be able to achieve it because of the lack of finances.

(The school we are going to send the scholar is up for discussion. We have a prospect, but it still needs to be well thought-of and finalised.)

Once we have identified the possible scholar, and come 2017 school year, we will help and guide him/her from taking the entrance exam up to taking the diploma or even the license.

Selection process is yet to be finalised.
Terms and conditions are yet to be set.
Formalisation of the intent is yet to be discussed as well.

For a better start of our planning, we would like to ask who's willing to commit to this greater goal.

For a rough estimate that we did, taking the basic necessities into consideration, we might need to raise around P50,000 per semester. But remember this is just an estimate.

As of the moment the following block mates are already committed. Alphabetical order ng surname to ha nung college. hahaha :)
